Descensus Averno Facilis Est
You have chosen your way to die.
May God have mercy, In peace may you rest.

My loyalty in this time was the ultimate test
and although I’ve failed, you tell me not why.
Descensus Averno Facilis Est

You cleverly insist this is all for the best
but even our foundation was built on a lie.
May God have mercy, In peace may you rest.

You took what you needed and left the rest.
and I’ll never be whole, no matter how hard I try.
Descensus Averno Facilis Est

Those shards cut deep, but many can attest
that although I still bleed, I no longer cry.
May God have mercy, In peace may you rest.

Now you’ve left, you say, to pass your own test.
I know you will fail, and I know you will die.
Descensus Averno Facilis Est
May God have mercy, In peace may you rest
My first Villanelle, for my class yet again...

I found the latin phrase within a chapter of Casandra Claire's "Draco Trilogy." I'm a sucker for fan fics...especially slash, so it's kinda odd that I've read so much of this one, but it's really good! I don't think she'd mind if I gave a link to her work...go read it! [link]

On to the poem...another piece on my ex...he's in the Army and signed up to go to Iran...I have a feeling he's not coming back and I don't really know how to think about this. Regardless, I almost cried when I read this in class, so I don't much like looking at it more than I have to.

I was doing a Google search for the Latin Translation for "easy is the descent into hell" and came across this. WOW!!
This is a great piece of work, you can really feel the emotion behind it...

I noticed that you said Cassandra Claire's "Draco Trilogy" was where you had found the phrase, ironically that's where I got it too!! She is a great author, have you ready her published stories yet?? I highly reccomend them :P

Nice, latin is an interesting language, but I would suggest Gaelic for the emotional stuff, latin tends to lack a great amount of emotion.
